Update on Tess

So here's a quick update on Tess. I was scheduled to take her in this morning to have her stitches removed, which we did, just a little bit earlier in the morning than I had planned. So here's the story: on Wednesday Tess was suffering from a fever and I was worried that her wound might be infected. Later in the day, however, she seemed to make a good recovery and was acting normal. Thursday night the fever returned and she was obviously in a lot of pain. Tess wouldn't eat or drink and hadn't slept much at all. I kept debating whether I should take her into the hospital or keep her home and wait till Friday morning. Finally, at about 3:00 am Friday morning I decided I just couldn't wait any longer so I woke Luke up and told him I was taking Tess up to Primary's. We loaded her in the car and drove off. Luke stayed home with Ava. (They were both sleeping anyway.)

Tess had a different nurse and doctor this visit, but we were in the same room coincidentally. The supervising doctor was also the same for both visits. Her name was Dr. Soprano and she was wonderful. She came in and talked to me and totally put my mind at ease. She's actually the one who made the diagnosis of what Tess was suffering with. It's called Coxsackie Virus and it's totally unrelated to the stitches and the Sunday night incident. Just really bad luck that Tess gets stitches and a virus in the same week. Basically, the virus will run it's course in a few more days and Tess will probably have more fevers, sore throat and muscle aches. Poor girl!

We got home from the hospital this morning at about 6:00 am and I was totally exhausted. I slept till about 9:00 but then Luke had to get ready for work so I got up and took care of the girls. The good news is that the stitches were taken out and everything looks good there; healing very nicely. Also, the Coxsackie Virus should be gone by next week so that won't interfere with our trip to Canada. What I've discovered is that we sure are blessed to live in a place with such good medical care. I'm so grateful for the people at Primary Children's and the care we received there.
