A Commitment to Motherhood

There's been talk today in the media about motherhood and homemaking and I can't help but write some of how I feel, because obviously this is an issue that I'm passionate about. I try not to get too political because I don't want to hurt other people's feelings, but as a woman and mother I can't keep quiet about this. There have been some people downplaying the importance of homemaking and a women's choice to stay home. Talking about Ann Romney, one democratic strategist said, "she's never worked a day in her life." This person's words additionally implied that women who stay home to raise children are not qualified (not smart enough) to have any valid opinion on economic and political issues. Is my opinion as an American women invalid because I am not currently in the "workforce?" Maybe I should not even have the right to vote because I don't "work?" Some people may agree, but if they do, they are insane, and they are clearly devaluing the important role mothers play. There is an attack on the family in our society. I can hardly bear to watch it play out in the media, it is so disheartening. These people who devalue stay at home moms are often the same ones who violently speak out for women's rights to abortions. Are you seeing what I'm seeing here? There is an attack on the family, the traditional family of Father, Mother, and children are disappearing. And are we better for it as a nation? I think not. Thank you to all the mothers out there who have a firm commitment to motherhood, even if we are looked down on, judged, and ridiculed. We are doing the right thing.

  1. I agree!! It makes me wonder if the people who make those comments have ever stayed home with children.. cause if they did they would know how much work it really is!!!
